Hi
I want to do LOW maintenance gardening. If I want to create a new raised bed vegetable garden, could I put down layers of newspaper over the grass and add 6 to 8 inches of soil on top of that and plant this year using plants from a greenhouse?

I know it's raining in Manitowoc today. Yes you can. Make the layers 6 to 7 sheets thick before adding the soil. The hit you local Steins or other garden center and you are good to go. Hope this helps. Stay dry

You're so lucky ~ we have nothing of the kind around here. Of course, we have the Lowe's/HomeDepot/Walmart garden centers, and some privately owned ones, but nothing on the scale of Stein's. I can even still hear the song "Stein's Gardens and Gifts, cuz everybody needs a little sunshine"!
Sorry ~ didn't mean to hijack this thread ......... you can actually garden as low or as high maintenance as you choose. I'm somewhere in the middle
