Has anyone used one of these mowers? Have a really bad back, so I can't use my big electric mower anymore. The Neuton is supposed to be lighter and easier to use. BUT, the smaller one only has a 14" cutting width, and the larger has a 19" width. They are fairly expensive so I don't want to order and then find they don't do the job. I use my rider for the back yard, but I need the smaller mower to do the small front and side yards. Anybody have experience with this brand??? |

I just bought a new electric mower and love it but it is a Black and Decker. I haven't even heard of the Neuton. Sorry I'm not much help. |

I have been a proud owner of a Neuton for >6 years. I have a typical lower middle class near suburban Chicago yard. The total lot size is 60' x 120'. The net lawn with buildings beds and pavement subtracted is ~ 3000-3500 Sq Ft. It's all flat (more or less or it wouldn't drain heavy rain). Th Neuton was the best investment I've ever made in gardening equipment. I almost always mulcher mow. I sometimes use the catcher and spread clippings on the veggie beds. I keep 3 batteries ready via 1 charger. I can get 2 full mow jobs including use of the attachable trimmer out of a single battery's charge. I also use it in the fall to mulch the leaves down in place. That can take up to ~ 1 1/2 battery charges. I rake only to even the leaves' distribution on the lawn. I've intermittently worked on a new blade design to advance cutting efficiency via a slicing vs the hacking process all rotary mowers use today. I intend the cutting edge to contact the grass at an angle other than perpendicular to the rotation much as the old sickles and scythes did. Both efficiency and effectiveness should increase significantly. |

Here's a link to Youtube videos on the larger 6.2 (19" swath). I have an earlier generation equivalent of the smaller 5.2(14" swath) It's so quite with a well bal=anced blade that I can carry on a conversation with someone while mowing. Oh, the trimmer is an excellent option. They've incorporated flattened and twisted polymer string. The difference with it vs round cross section string is more than a bit like the difference between using a machete vs a softball bat to hack your way through the jungle! Here's the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1M0NQMpFk0Q You should find associated videos linked on the page about this and other battery electric mowers that are available.
