I just bought a house with a huge pecan tree in the back yard and a smaller one in front. I've heard the leaves shed tannic acid into the soil and it's difficult to get anything to grow around the trees. DOes anybody have any info they could share about planting gardens (any kind- ornamental or vegetable) around pecan trees? |

try hostas, with a nice big hole and some lovely topsoil in with them. Lamium, pachysandra ( they claim it will even grow under pines) I'd mulch like crazy too. |

Are you not going to pick the pecans? If so, you don't want to plant anything underneath them! If you do plant under them, expect pecan seedlings to come up everywhere. |
