I haven't been able to see what kind of critter makes the holes, but I think its invited its family and friends over because there used to be only one or two holes now my front & back yards are a mine field. Any idea what it is and how can I kill it? Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

I don't know a thing about where you live, but I recently visited my son at Vandenburg AFB outside Santa Maria, and the base was full of holes like that caused by ground squirrels. I took an early morning walk and those critters were just flinging dirt out of the ground! Kind of comical, but they weren't in my garden! |

Oh! Ground squirrels. I need a cat or my neighbor does...preferably my neighbor. |

Oh, don't you just love those cute little squirrels? My yard looks about like that almost every morning. It's not like there aren't fifty trillion acorns and forty million hickory nuts all out there in the woods right beside the lawn. |

Please don't leave a cat outside to destroy wildlife, chances are it will kill many birds, reptiles, and amphibians before it goes after those squirrels. Please use a trap or something made for control of mammal pests. Feral cats are one of the most destructive animals on the ecosystem Sorry for the rude post, but it really grinds my gears.

I had a altered male cat that controlled our pest for 15 years! It might be enought if you just fill as many holes as you can with used kitty litter tho. The smell of there natural preditor so close to home will often make them want to live some place else. If you dont own a cat i would call a shelter and ask for some of there used litter they have lots!HTH |

I am a responsible pet owner and would never do such a thing. I know my previous neighbors have not been that way and their cats roamed the streets freely. This was very annoying to me because they would poop in my garden, and scare the birds away (which I love to watch) on top of all that they would breed with each other and the feral cats up here. So, rest assured I would never get a cat and leave it outdoors. Besides I hate cats which is why I don't own one. |

Just because a cat is outdoors and a roamer does not make it feral anyways. How many farms have strictly outdoor cats for pest control and they're far from feral. I should know. My next door neighbor had 22 at one time and as soon as they heard him holler "kitty, kitty, kitty!" they'd all come running for their food. Sometimes they'd go inside, but I don't remember them ever straying from his yard because they had everything they could want there. lol Once he went into a home and they leveled part of the property for a new house that's when the rat population was discovered. My neighbor said they'd run back and forth across the road by her house, but the only one I ever saw was the one that had gotten up through the floor of my fruit cellar in my basement and ate through the plastic bottles of salad dressing I had in there. It got DConned. I have 2 neighbors tht let their cats out sometimes and one likes to hunt in my flowerbed and the other in my barn. I don't do mulched beds, but use ground covers and I've yet to find any nasties in my flowers. |

I have ground squirrels too! They are digging in all my planters until... I put chicken wire on top of them to stop it. I get what jared is saying, I get what everyone is saying. My yard is a cat magnet, every stray cat seems to wind up here because my front yard is a little birdie paradise. But, I call the Animal Rescue people and have them picked up. I have one outside cat and he DOES not chase, eat or do anything to harm the wildlife. Granted it took me a bit to get him that away, now he just sits there and watches them like I do. He also chases off all other stray cats now. The *hate* word is so ugly *to me* and the feeling that goes along with it. HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE! |
