Walking around my yard yesterday, I have several empty spots that are usually starting to fill in with volunteers. I added compost/topsoil to most of my beds this year and mulched real well, so I guess I smothered them. I put out MORE zinnia seeds, sunflower seeds, baby's breath (I planted some in early spring-no sprouts!) and marigolds. I found a partially empty pack of cosmos, so I threw those out in the beds, too. Just have to wait now-hmph! |

Add to my list-- malva, thyme, basil, parsley, fruit smoothie zinnia, texas star hibicus and lima beans. It gives me a thrill to see those little heads pop up.![]() Sass--any advise on starting columbine seeds would be appreciated. |

3 types of sunflowers, including a mult-bloom (though i'm lying...a bird planted that one for me lol), leaf lettuce, cukes, red peppers, jalapenos, hot 'garden salsa' peppers, canteloupe, peas, 5 varieties of tomatoes, and sweet potato (if you count a 'chunk' as a seed!) did my hot peppers in hanging bottles (milk and bleach...not the fancy ones you can buy...haha) and they did beautifully! |

I start all my Veggies from seeds or received Plants as a gift from friends, Here in Zone 9, Central Florida I started my Garnex Onions last year on Out 15. That's the day for me forever if you remember we transplanted planted 850 and gave away a couple hundred more transplants, so today is the day an the bed is ready. My fall garden seedings were, Brussels sprouts, corn, mustard greens, green beans, lettuce, onion bulbs, tomatoes(early girl/Roma) and yellow squash. I think my fall garden is looking better than the spring one did at the time given, I've had to shade cover, the sun has been hot and weather up to the high 90's that's too hot for fall cole crops, This week it's going to cool down some the lettuce and cabbage will be happy. Starting from seed is like takes care but the reward is hundred's of plants for pennies, 6 Early Girl Tomato plants $3.89 at the big box stores, packet of seeds $1.39 planted 1/2 the packet and had twenty five or more, Plant seed about twice as deep as the size of the seed ? , I sow then or use a pencil, sprinkle potting mix over the top, cover with a light covering of hay (be sure you just can see the soil)keep moist and NEVER let DRY-OUT,bingo they sprout, Later Guilt Trip |
