This picture takes me back a bit. I grew up on farms. It reminds me of my uncles dairy farm. He would have square dancing parties in the barn , similiar to this one. I couldn't square dance to save my life. I was 6 and had no rhythym (sp). I sure could strip that tobacco and milk the cows and feed the Ostriches and round up the bulls. Awww, those were the days. Thanks reba. |

Ostriches? That's pretty cool. A local bison farm used to have them here. That's a neat old barn. It looks like a puzzle picture.

poetic, I swear my uncle would say, dont get to close they will poke your eyes out. But!!, I am suppose to feed them, your mean uncle! I was scared to death and I would throw the food at them and run..LOL, im not kidding, I did. They would chase me all over the place. I had a friend over so I took her out there to feed them with me and I said they dont bite go ahead and feed them. They pecked her head and she ran off screaming, I peed my pants that day. I was just reminiscing (sp). Oh the things we do as kids. |

Over 30 years ago, I lived on an old farmstead that had an old barn out behind the house. It was pretty big and had a cow or horse skull skeleton hanging on the outside wall. I only went inside it once or twice because it was full of weeds and stuff. One day during the winter I heard an awful crash and went running to the back window to see what had happened. I couldn't see anything unusual and was about to walk away from the window when I realized I couldn't see the barn! It had collapsed under the weight of all the snow! |

Are we reminising here or what? I was raised 30 mile south of Philly. I have the Philly accent, when I am near that area. It just comes naturally. My husband laughs. Then my parents moved to the country. (what I call the country anyway) My upstate family raised dairy cattle. It was awesome to milk cows, feed cows amd play in the barn. We had a couple of beef cows. Collecting eggs. I want chickens now, hubby isn't into it he is a city boy. Never had a dog, doesn't understand the purpose of a pet, we do have 3 they are my kids, but guess who takes care of them? And my son doesn't live here anymore. LOL Anyway, remember the good old days. My gram used to take me to the corner deli for penny candy, and the other gram taught me to crochet, and garden. One grandfather took me on long walks in the woods and taught me about nature, the other had a wooden leg he lost his in the mines. He took me to pick chestnuts. I miss my grandparents. I know thats why my granddaughter loves it here. I do everything with her even let play in mud puddles. Now she wants to go camping. she is 3. Next warm day she comes I promised we will do it. Fire for marshmellows and all. I'm just as excited. tent is ready and so is gram. Did I devert from the topic?? |
