Don't those johnny jump-ups just make you smile in the spring??!! I have a question - what did you build your raised bed with? My DH built me beautiful raised bed with pressure-treated wood several years ago. We stained the outside, but they are rotting. We screwed them together and I am heartbroken to think that we will have to dismantle them soon and start over...

I am totally going to plant in cups next year to start out. Golly, that is a great idea. I have seen postings on here from other people who have potted in those cups. Do you pierce a hole tho in the bottom for drainage? I agree johnny jump ups are so colorful and no fuss. I had them a long time ago, said it was an annual but came back the next year, no joke! Wolfwalker your gardens look so nice and well kept. Thanks for sharing.

cougar i start with peat pellets (jiffy pellets 25 for 2.25 at wal mart )After the seedling get a true set of leaves i transplant into cups. The cups double as a chipmunk protector and a cut worm guard as well as a name tag. I punch 4 holes in the bottom with a ball point pin and 1 hole about a 1/4 way up the cup. Some of the lettuce and spinach will be a steak salad supper.

Your gardens look wonderful. Do you keep only water in the jugs? or water mixed with fertilizer?
