I live in a dairy valley on the Oregon Coast. We are famous here for our Cheddar Cheese. Because this is such an interdependent community I am learning the joys of nearly free gardening. My husband brings home empty wood machine crates we break down and recycle into raised garden beds. We get free composted manure from a local dairy and we kitchen compost. I buy a few seeds each year and a couple of plants and also have a net work of friends whom I trade starts with. There is a sizable Master Gardener program, and I take advantage of the local university extension office. In food growing terms we are pretty lucky here. Pretty mild winters but massive quantitys of rain. Also the wind is a huge obstacle at times. I am interested in medicinal and healing herbs and am focusing on my collection and their uses. I am a spiritual gardener, still very new at it but learning tons each year!!!!! |

Nice to hear from someone geographically close. I'm on the E. side of the coast range from you in the King's Valley Area. I hope you find things that can help and sustain you in your gardening. Fritz |
