Not sure how we got this into the garden, but a few years now and absolutely pleasant strong scent (like an herb) that I dont know how to describe. At first thought it was an annual but now this year it has come up strongly in a few large clumps from existing roots I think so I am thinking that it is a perennial, please confirm.

I am not good at describing scents, but it is very strong and very pleasant. It's not mint, at least not the kind of mint that I am aware of.

Hmmmm...it LOOKS like lemon balm, but that has a distinctly lemon-y smell to it.

I would guess lemon balm too, which is a close relative of mint. Does it smell like Pledge furniture polish?

If so, it's a perennial, and will continue to come up everywhere, just like mint.
