I am growing a few things, basil, parsley and oregano. The plants are really getting big. Can I put some in the freezer or in jars to use them later? Tehy are beautiful and very tall. I live in Newnan ga and they love this weather so far. I want to try chives and thyme next, them I can make a dip for bread in jars. Thank you for your advice. |

As you can see, biyu, this person is new to the forums and probably hasn't figured out how to begin a new thread. Be patient. I already answered your question, but here it is again, just in case anyone else might benefit from the answer. If you're in Georgia, you shouldn't have to dry oregano. It should be evergreen for you, but if you must, just dry stems in small bundles and then pick off the leaves, store them in jars. Parsley can be done in the microwave. Take bunch, put it in the microwave for just a second or two. You can watch it dehydrate almost immediately. You have to really watch what you're doing but it turns out really pretty. Basil works best as frozen, but I have dried mine, pressed in the phone book. It is a grayish green when done, but it works. |

Biyu, I would try cuttings in the bottles. Granddaughter brought a 5 inch branch from a petunia. I put it in a mommy pot, short little vase. It started growing. I has a little root system going on. It has flowered 3 times now and has new buds presently. I would try different things, even spider plants. Now for Seeds, I think you should try planting similiar to planting a teranium. some small stones on the bottom, dirt, a few seeds, and a sprinkle of dirt. Mist often. maybe cover also to keep seeds moist. I like the idea. Your recycling the bottles, and if you arrange a few at a time, makes for a nice centerpiece. Tell me what you came up with since this post was started so long ago. |
