Found this bloom on a plant (small bush) along a walking trail at the office park I work in. Small bush about 3-1/2ft tall. I do live in Texas so the plant I'm sure is drought tolerant. Any suggestions? Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Looks like BottleBrush to me. There is a dwarf -St. John?I think? Drought tolerant, over water tolerant, very tolerant plant. Hardy only to zone 8, I think? |

The small shrub like Bottlebrush is called "little John". I have weeping bottle brush and I love it. It doesn't lose all of it's leaves in winter and is so tolerant of too much water/not enough water, hot, cold, cat's claws! Bees, hummingbirds & butterflies love it. |

Yes, everyone is right. It is indeed a Callistemon/bottlebrush. My only warning would be, if it's a tree it can get very top heavy and the bees don't just like it, they love it...so much so as you can hear lots of them when you pass underneath it and if there's an allergy in the family it can be a real issue. In a mature state it is also incredibly messy. Not one for windy areas or your neighbors will be complaining about the mess, which is highly visible! Sorry for all the negatives...it's not one of my favorites, but each to their own! Debra blog.2edendesign.com www.2edendesign.com |
