In the spring when the green leaves of the Resurrection/Surprise/Naked Lady lilly are full size, can they be mowed to a height of, say, 3 or 4" without killing the bulb or ruining future flower production? I ask because I planted about 100 bulbs along a long fence and for a few years will have a lot of hand weeding to do in the spring unless I can mow as described above. In August I plan to just mulch heavily. |

They are also called surprise lillies. Down here they pop up anywhere, even if you've mowed all summer, so my "guess" is that mowing them is ok, until it gets close to time for them to bloom. |

Thank you xMillion. I took very early retirement because of slightly less sturdy health, and this location change I promised myself faithfully NOT TO OVERPLANT! You can guess how long that lasted. Especially when a new elderly friend wanted her massive bed dug up and just a few replanted at her front door where she could see them. I wound up carrying home a few hundred bulbs of all sizes, a collection that would've cost me close to a thousand scarce bucks if I could've bought them at all. Isn't it a joy to share with others? Now that I can afford to order Cecil Bruener climbing roses, I'll be eager to start some for lots of people and try to cover the town with roses! |
