Found him/her wandering around my front yard. The racoon was very lathargic. It did get up and move around but did it in circles. I did not see any signs of injury. I walked up on it and it didnt move, just stared at me. I called the wildlife ext. and they came an picked it up. Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wolf, I just called this morning on it. It did have rabies and they put it down. My hubby said yesterday, that racoons dont come out like that unless they are sickened with something. I dont like that they put it down tho. Put it out in the wild somewhere. Was told cant do that, other racoons will be affected. Well, anyway I feel kinda sad, cant help it. |

Rabies can be past on to any mammal even deer and livestock.I'm glad no one was bitten by it.I know its hard to put animals down but its for the best. |

I found a baby racoon traped in a dumpster out behind my moms place and it was so scared when it was lifted out with a catch pole it covered it eyes with its little hands. It was too cute but it ran away as soon as it was on the ground. |

Just had to add these. We found them under our tree after a storm. Actually my husband found them and told me about them. His words, "Go out and look under the tree by the mail box, but, do not feed them and no you aren't keeping them." Bummer Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Look at their adorable faces. Something so precious looking be so viscious and dangerous to humans. My all time favorite wish is to hug a Polar Bear & live. |

Wow, cougar. Sounds like you've got some brass there. lol Those pictures remind me of a book I had when I was little. omg I found it! http://cgi.ebay.com/Littlest-Raccoon.-Rare-First-E dition-Little-Golden-Book_W0QQitemZ270333453224QQc mdZViewItem (There's a space at Edition.) I'm so easily amused. A guy I was dating used to fish with a buddy at the river. They'd taken some tuna sandwiches for lunch and the smell brought out a raccoon. They broke off a few pieces and tossed it from the truck to the raccoon. It ate and took off, but it came back and brought it's little ones. I don't think the guys had much lunch that day. It's sad that they have to be put down, but it beats them suffering any longer or risking others getting rabies. I don't think anything could be done for one once it's contracted it anyhow because when it's noticeable it's too late. |

As far as the rabies, I think you are right. Once they have it it's too late. We had one come through our yard one day a few years ago. Middle of the afternoon and it was staggering. Walked right by our front porch and my husband was videoing it. He didn't get too close cause you could tell it was sick. His dad use to take in stray babies when my husband was younger. They'd take care of them till they got older. My husband has a scar where one of them bit him. Said they were nice and playful till they his maturity, then all bets are off. Not so nice anymore. My FIL has put out a live trap this year to keep the critters out of his garden. So far he has caught 5 racoons and one possum. He hasn't released them. If ya know what I mean. |
