Hello, I'm new here and needing some help. My backyard is a mess! I live in an small old cottage style house. In the backyard, there was a garden path put in at some point but it was done with concrete cut similiar to flagstone. Photos are attached. I am wanting to pull up the concrete and put stone down. (possibly flagstone) I am also wanting to do one of two things: 1. extend the walkway out a little to make room for table and chairs 2.build a small deck right outside the backdoor, and then add the flagstone just to the pathway. Deck or patio? I've attached a picture. Please forgive the flower beds.. or lack of, etc. This is a project I will probably have to do in stages. But of course, all ideas and opinions are welcome. I am open to suggestions.. and need help! Thanks so much. Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Myself, I am not a fan of decks. I think the flagstone looks lovely and fits better with a cottage-style house. I see you expanding an area of flagstone as you said to accommodate table and chairs, then build gardens around that. A few nice planters would also do nicely. It's a lovely little spot - I'm jealous! |

If you want to make a change, I would opt for a patio with what you have already. I think the patio would look better than a deck with the type of house you have. |
