Hello! My name is Chris and I've been an avid gardener for years. Throughout my gardening adventures I've kept an on again/off again journal of my gardening. Recently I thought about how nice it would be to start keeping my gardening records online so I could share with others as well as not having to keep up with a bunch of old notebooks. When I went looking on the web, I couldn't seem to find anything that would allow me to keep an ongoing journal/diary of my gardening activities. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? There are some software products you can buy and install on your computer, but I was looking for something that wouldn't require me to install anything on my machine and from which I could easily share my journal with others via the web (not having to spend any $$$ would be nice as well ) If such a thing does not exist, would that be something that others would be interested in or am I the only person that it would interest? Let me know your thoughts.

Chris

Thanks for the reply biyu_wolf_77! I took a look at LiveJournal, it looks like a real interesting place for creating a journal or blog, I'll have to keep it in mind as I continue my search. I'm still holding out for something that is more specific to gardening where I can track all things about my plants (planting, bloomings, fertilizing, pictures, notes, etc.) and then compare my experience with a specific plant with another user's experience. Right now in my notebook journals, I write notes to myself for the future (I fertilized on this date and want to do it again on this date, I planted these bulbs six inches deep, my cherry tree bloomed on April 4th, etc.) and I want to easily be able to find that information about a specific plant or be reminded about that specific plant. Am I crazy for wanting these things or would it just be easier to keep everything in a diary format and make seperate entries in the diary per plant. Question, questions... The search goes on!

Chris, If nothing else you could make a Word doc or maybe one in excel. It would not be sharing but would give u a place to keep all your notes and organize them. I made a folder in My Documents and named it gardening and then added folders inside it i.e. corn, onions, carrots etc.

LastNiceGuy, thanks for the feedback. That's actually part of what I have already (some old style notebooks, some electronic word and Excel docs). It could be I'm too much a tech geek at heart (I'm a web developer by profession). I'm actually surprised what I'm looking for doesn't exist, I did find an online journal at davesgarden.com, but it didn't really seem to fit what I was looking for (couldn't post pics of your plants with your logs, minimal amount of information that you could log, etc.) I'll keep looking and let everyone know if I find anything, if I can't find anything I might have to build something myself, although I might end up being the only user

I think that our blog area is the solution. It keeps track of the entries by the month and archives it. You can post pictures easily. People can make comments on your posts. There's a lot of sharing in the blogs. Take a look at a few and see if it doesn't fit your needs.
