Can someone tell me what evidence a mole leaves? I have these mounds in the yard, and I have holes. I don't have a lot of either of these but there are some. The neighbor next to us had a cat, and the neighbor two doors down had two, but since they have died or moved away I started getting these mounding trails and holes in my yard. Do I have a mole? If I do have one he isn't eating anything just burrowing... |

Oh Boy, I had a mole last year and it did so much damage to my front yard. I smoked bombed it, flooded it, put poison, still didnt deter the varmant. Sitting on the front porch determined to catch it and low and behold, there it was tunneling. I picked up my pitch fork and started stabbing the ground *everywhere*.. I didnt see another tunnel from that point on. I was determined and had a little bit of time so I was gonna catch me a mole dang it.. |

I had a cat years ago that would do "his business" in mole tunnels....I don't think they cared for that! We get moles here because we are surrounded by woods and they tunnel out to eat the worms and grubs in the yard...and ruin the yard in the process. Last year I used a castor oil spray made by liquid fence....it doesn't kill them but it drives them away and back into the woods...(or maybe your neighbor's yards?)

I've tried everything under the sun, but there are just too many of them now. Argggg! We no longer have cats, either. Good luck. |

Oh, and I also meant to say that they are eating the earthworms and grubs in the ground. They won't bother your plants. The vole will do that for you. A vole doesn't leave tunnels behind. He just makes a hole and then eats the roots of your plants! |

Witt, Thanks for the info. Strange thing is the holes aren't near the mounds. I only have one mound right now, but it is still winter up here in the woods. In fact it's snowing right now, so maybe the little pest is hibernating. I have stuck a hose down the holes, and that seemed to make it move to another part of the yard. Right now the mound is over by the stairs that lead down into my front yard. |

Sandylee, Where can I get this liquid fence stuff? I'd get a cat, but I'm not a cat person, and I don't believe in having one and then letting it run loose, and poop in everyone's yard. Our neighbors cats used to do that, and there's nothing more gross than to be working in the garden, and get a handful of that smelly stuff. I have to throw the gloves away 'cause I just couldn't get rid of the stink! |

Oh yes, you have moles my dear! They will tear up your yard if you don't get them under control. I'm looking for help for moles my self, so can't help you there. But I've heard ridding them is virtually impossible, but controlling them is. Good luck! p.s. If you like cats, maybe it'd be a good idea to get one... let him out in your yard A LOT!!!! I have two dogs, so a cat is out of the question for me. Seems like your old neighbors cat is what was keeping them in line for so long? Like I said, good luck & great gardening!

One more thing.... My uncle has a mole problem too! He's going to rent a huge roller to flatten out his yard & collapse the tunnels. I thought it sounded like a great idea, has anyone else heard that it works??? I wasn't sure if they'd move, or try to rebuild?
