I wish someone did because I love playing around with those programs. They are just too expensive to purchase just for the fun of it.

Hey there,

Well with all this garden planning that is sprouting many gray hairs out of my head every hour I work on this... I came across some free garden plans... and even a little online program that you can plan stuff with. THe selection of plants isn't the best but if you know what plants you are using and how big they will be then it just might help.

You have to join better homes and gardens to use the software I believe? But its free anyway. The website is...
http://www.bhg.com/gardening/

and the garden design thing is...
http://planagarden.bhg.com/planagarden/

Hope these help... they helped me get an idea now

Dynascape used to allow you to get a trail version of their landscape design software by download. Now I think you have to send in for it. The lite version is CAD based however they include tutorial videos so it does have it's advantages.
If your really into it get a copy of photoshop, a pressure tablet so you can draw on the computer, sketchUP from Google (they are starting to add plants to their libraries), and a version of Dynascape.

Use the trail version until it runs out and then change the date until you get comfortable enough to buy a copy. It runs around $950 last time I check and $2500 for the full version.

It is a good design program however the difference between the $950 and $2500 is small. They give you a few saving options and a bigger plant library. Hardly worth the extra money. Here is a design I created with it. I would certainly choose different plants. It is a thumbnail.

Hello,
I just bought some software from Half-Priced Books for &7.00. It is called 3DHome Architect Landscape Design Deluxe Version 9. I've shopped around and according to the box it does what some of the others do. I bought it because it does terrain mapping - I have alot of different levels and slopes at my house. When I went online to encoreusa it was listed quite a bit higher then &7.00. Go to their site and read about this progam at www.encoreusa.com.

Good Luck
