Hi, I decided to have a flower garden this year, and when my husband brought me the timber to begin my garden,I suddenly was inspired to shape it like a house. So far I have put in a couple of Petunia's, pansy's, and marigold also I have planted bachlor button seeds for the door know. I am needing idead for the ground cover of the house and any other helpful advice. I am looking forward to the journey of this adventure and the outcome of the house of flowers. Thankyou so much. Lori

The ground cover depends on where you live and the soil condition. The house in the picture is very cool but is upside down. the roof IMO should be against the shed or house in the background.

Do you want the ground cover to be colorful? I would be glad to give you some good thoughts about this.

Cute idea. I have a blue veronica that grows close to the ground. It blooms in the spring and sometimes even in January or February. That's one thought. I hope to see others' ideas.

Oh, and welcome to Garden Guides!

How about rimming the edges with a perennial grass? I have liriope - it stays green a good part of the year and blooms early-mid summer. Stays about 5-6". If you just want to fill in the space with plants, put something taller in the middle and work out with shorter and shorter plants. Otherwise, you could plant things in a way that reallly makes it look like a house (for example, rows and rows of your petunias to mimic siding, a grouping of pinks for windows, etc. Send pics on how it all comes out!
