Hello everyone. My name is Gabriel and I am a thirty year old carpenter who is determined to finally have a vegetable garden. I have dug up and turned an area in my yard and I am wondering what some of your suggestions might be concerning keeping the weeds down. Should i cover it with something? I have heard some people use newspaper or landscape cloth. Should I buy some wood and build a border? What about rabbits? What are your ideas? Thanks.

Welcome. We're always happy to have another gardener. Scroll around the forums. You should see all kinds of places to ask gardening questions, like Gardens, Vegetables, Composting, Pests, etc. We have a rabbit fence around our Garden Garden, but the little devils are eating my lilies that are just coming up. Personally, I use old leaves and pine needles in my Garden Garden. Look around and ask all the questions you would like. It's loads of learning fun!

Welcome to Garden Guides. Like Witt I would scroll down to the Vegetable gardening forum and ask away.

Gardens are very individual. What one person does is not what the next gardener would do. I prefer newspapers because I have them in abundance and they work for me. I am starting a small raised veggie garden and used a large cardboard box but most of the time I use newspapers.

So look around figure out what works best for you and go to gardening.
