Purchased these two trees yesterday with high hopes. I've had some more free time in the morning lately and decided to go by Pine Island Nursery to look for some replacements for my lost citrus trees. I decided to go the extra mile and purchase two notoriously difficult plants to grow: The cacao tree(chocolate) and the piper nigrum(Black Pepper) vine. I figure I have the perfect spot for them on the side of the house since they need shade. Hopefully they produce, because pepper is expensive at the grocery store.. and having chocolate in my backyard would be a dream come true! ![]() This is what the fruit of the cacao tree will look like. The seeds or "beans" in the middle are what is used to make commercial chocolate. Attachments: ![]() |

Here is a pic of the set up I made for the black pepper vine. I've never guided anything on a trellis, so please feel free to give me some pointers. The close up shot is of the peppercorns starting to grow.

It should be between $20-25 for a plant like mine. I paid $20. Information on how to grow it is pretty scarce. From what I've read, they prefer a tropical cimate, partial to full shade, and lots of water. |
