I need an artist to tell me what plants go together in containers so I can buy the right ones so they will look like the pictures in "Better Homes and Garden" for my patio. I can grow them but I just get overwhelmed with the design ![]() I have sunshine and shade

I wish that I could answer this right off the top of my head, but I do know that you want some for height, some middle, and some trailing all with the same requirements. If no one comes up with something tonight, I'll get back to it in the morning. Oh, and welcome to Garden Guides. |

Actually you can go to the Better homes and gardens web site, and click container gardening and they give you the plant names for sun and shade ideas. Also backyardlivingmagazine.com They have a publication called budget gardening, and have recipie cards for container design, those are available on line. Hope this helps. |

I saw this one site with the title "Plant combination ideas for containers". Pretty neat ideas at the site but I used the words in my search browser. Then I clicked on images, WOW was I surprised! So many great ideas on the net! Look at the images and see what you like then copy what others have planted and/or plant similar plants. ![]() Also, I'm sure many GGers will come up with great ideas for you! Welcome to GG!

Aha! I knew that I had seen this question somewhere. It wasn't on your blog. It was right here. I'm glad that you got more specifics on your question. You will have to share some pictures when you get them made up! |

I just purchased a great book called "Easy Container Combosa: Vegetables and Flowers" that has stunning photography and lots of helpful tips. I got my copy at Lowes but i'm sure there are plenty of other places to find it. Author is Pamela Crawford and ISBM-10 -9712220-9-6 and ISBN-13:978-0-971222-9-0. I'm unsure why there are two ISBN numbers but can tell you that this book is third of a series that was written by the author. Good luck!

One website that I go to often is Proven Winners and it says plant search. Then you can look under container recipes. If you click on the pictures and it will give a close up picture of it. On the same website you can look up hanging basket ideas. If you want to look up types of flowers this can be done too. The greenhouse that I work at orders most of our flowers from here and they have some really beautiful combinations. This is my favorite website when it comes to planting flowers. Good luck and Happy Easter!
