Hello fellow gardeners. I have a question. Last year I planted a royal highness hybrid tea rose bush and a stem rose. Both of them bloomed well but we had to move in October so I replanted them at our new place with their root balls and as much of their original soil as I could. I am trying to find something that I can watch for to know if they meade it through the winter? The local greenhouse said that the tea rose could come back but it probably wouldn't but it doesn't look dead to me. The stem rose just looks like brown sticks in the ground but it's always looked like that when it wasn't blooming. Anyone that could tell me what to watch for would really help me out.
Happy planting!

I dont know what stem rose means. But with mine, I just watch the canes and when they are green and leafy, I cut out the ones that are still brown. Does that help at all??

The stem rose is just what they called it but they are canes. Most of the canes are brown but I'm maily trying to find out what I should watch for with my rose bush, like the little red things that dot the branches? I'm just not sure if it's alive or not and I need a way to tell. Here are a couple pictures that I just took, theyre not very good because I still haven't figured out exactly how to use my camera.lol Can anyone tell me if they look like they're alive or not? The greenhouse just said to watch for leaves.

It looks alive to me. Can you scratch the bark on the cane and see green?

I'm seeing green on both roses, so that's a good thing. On the smaller bush prune down to where the green starts. On the larger bush, prune back any canes that are still brown and leave the ones that are green. The red spots are new growth..

Thank you so much for your comments! I think they are alive! I'll have to wait and see but I have renewed faith in them! They are really special to me because they're the first plants I ever planted and I worked really hard on them last year and I really want them to come back. They are also the reason I started gardening. Oh yes I can see a little green and the sticky stuff is starting to kind of flake off and I'm assuming that they are shedding it because it's getting warmer? It just looks like that stuff was there to protect them from winter cold? I may be way off base so let me know if I am and thanks for all of your help!
