Great, Leesel. I saw my first yesterday afternoon. I had eight sightings. I doubt that it was eight different ones. I think mine was a scout, too. He sat on the feeder and drank and drank and drank. Then he'd fly off and be gone for a while. He'd come back, but from a different direction. He sat in the oak tree a little and came down for a drink. Off he'd go again and then return. He/They did this eight times within an hour and a half. (I didn't dare go into the house! I couldn't miss this.) He sat in the mimosa only about ten feet from me. I watched as he cleaned his bill, ruffled his feathers, and appeared to be scoping out the area. He must have enjoyed the nectar because he landed every time that he came and drank for almost a minute before he would leave. |

Well I am madder than a wet hen!! I checked on the migration map and they have sightings ALL the way up into WI and I have had nary a one My feeders have been up, but of course ~ I have been working so many extra hours I wouldn't see them if they HAD been there I did see a swallow yesterday and that is good news ....... the old wives tale goes that it won't freeze again once the swallows return. Fingers crossed. |
