Cougar, here are some pics of the vine, the 'worm', and the butterflies. I had about 5 flitting around this evening, coming in and out of the passionflower vine, and all over the zinnias. Will be a good year for worms! Notice how the larvae has the same coloring as the butterfly itself. I wonder if all butterfly larvae are like that?

Oh, oh!! Happened on this by surprise!! A butterfly in the making!
I have been back several times to watch-At first I thought a spider had this butterfly, then I saw the part of the cocoon. The legs I saw were those of the butterfly, so slowly trying to get out of it's cocoon! This is taking a long time!

Well, I checked it this morning before leaving, and no more progress. I think it may not make it. How long does this process take, anyway? I have to look that up! Will check it this pm.

Well, it's over and no butterfly. When I got home, there were wings on the ground, and the ants had eaten the body. . Also, the cocoon, not 2 feet away had been eaten through, also. DANG IT!! At least I saw some of it-Amazing! I vaguely remember seeing a butterfly emerge when I was a kid My Grandpa showed it to me-he had lots and lots of flowers, and herbs in his yard. Dill, we had lots of dill!
