This year we are planting 5 kinds of tomatoes(all heirloom), hot and mild peppers, cukes, beans(pole and bush), carrots, dill, onions, broccoli, and lettuce. We will be canning and freezing what we don't eat right away and giving surplus to the local food bank. Nothing tastes as good as eating fresh veggies right out of the garden.

For several years I only put in two or three mater plants. This year I am going to do some greenbeans, tomatoes, squash and cukes. Only plant what we like to eat. Will be looking forward to seeing how your article pans out. Linda B from SC |

I garden to gain experience so that one day my family will be able to grow and raise everything we eat and not have to buy the majority of our groceries from the store. At this point, I grow whatever I have room for and will grow in pots. Each year I try to add something new. This year the new additions are more herbs, a dwarf lemon tree, a blueberry bush, egg plant, squash, and zucchini. Last year the only vegetables we grew were cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. I tried growing lettuce, but it just didn't happen. The rest of everything was herbs or edible flowers. The only thing we grew that we couldn't eat was a moonflower vine. Attachments: ![]() |

I love finding the oddest plants and veggies in unusual catalogs and growing them for the fun of it. Even if it's not edible, I just love the strange stuff you don't find in the stores. |

I wouldn't say I'm an experienced gardner, but I dabble in it. I've got wild blackberries growing on my lot and I've grown sweet corn and pumpkins before. I usually plant pumpkins every year because I love Halloween, and now I have two grandchildren to pick the pumpkins. I'm trying to start a family tradition. |

For my Spring Garden I'm planting Onion, Radishes, Beets, Potatoes, Chard, Green Beans, Melons Peppers, Tomatoes, Okra, Peas and Spinach. (I plant my tomatoes, Okra and other 'tall' vegetables in my landscape, so as not to overwhelm my 24" high raised beds.) I grow melons, cukes, summer squash, pole beans and other climbing/vining plants on trellis's made of cattle panels to conserve space and make weeding easier. I'm going to add Kale to my Fall Garden and possibly a few other things like garlic. I also grow basil, rosemary, thyme and fennel, my favorite herbs. |

I'm a newbie at this. I want to plant several types of pumpkins this year so that the grandkids have a pumpkin patch to pick in come Halloween. I may plant some Indian corn if I can find it so I have some for decorating come Fall. The first year we moved up here I planted sweet corn. I can't believe it will grow at 6000 ft, but there you have it. |

I grow a lot of peas. My kids love them. Sometimes I have to replant(deer). Tomatoes because there is nothing like a garden fresh tomato! Spinach and chard for salads. Tons of herbs for cooking. My favorite are: Mint, greek oregano, dill, parsley, sage, fennel. I also dry them for use in winter. Lots of radish because they are easy and I interplant them in hopes that bugs and deer will pass on the other veggies. My cukes didn't do well last year but this year I'm hopping for a good crop. Lastly, pumpkins and squash. |
