New here so please bear with me. I'm near Baton Rouge, La. and need a reliable person who will work with me on a new yard using native plants that are bird and butterfly friendly. Is it really so unreal to want a bare spot with gravel in my yard for pigeons? We have lots of bluebirds living in our birdhouses, and, hummingbirds who try to feed at our feeders but one, of course, has staked all of them out !!! The wrens are driving us all crazy and I can't make them go away. I'm planning to plant anything I can find, including the dreaded air potato that I love and kept contained to two plants for 30 years in our old yard. We moved from a 5 acre place to a bare 1 acre yard in a subdivision. My patio faces north now and the winds are fierce. Any ideas on cold weather "tropical" plants? Joking, of course, but realistically serious. We plan to put up a board fence part way on both sides. If this post isn't acceptable here then please let me know. I've never "blogged" before. Welcome to Garden Guides, swampgal. There are quite a few very knowlegeable gardeners here from Louisiana that will surely be able to help. My hubby is from LA, but has been here in SC for many years. |

Also, check to see if Louisiana has a cooperative extension. It is a community educational outreach program and they should have free information of plants that will do such things that are native to the area. Or check with your local nursery to see if they have a landscaper wall with business cards. |
