I have an Alberta Peach, Bartlett Pear, Bing-cherry, Plum, and nectarine all within ten feet of each other. I keep them pruned and somewhat dwarfed. My issue is they are near my privacy fence and I keep netting on them..BUT the squirrels will jump off the fence and eat threw the netting and eat away. What can I do to keep the squirrels away. I have two motion activated owls and I have a blue heron that is motion activated. Id really appreciate any advice that is given so I could eat at least half of my fruit instead a 1/3 of it.

A heck, the only thing I can think of is pick some fruit and put 'em some where where the squirrel can get to them? I had the same problem with an apple tree I had. I finally gave up and let the squirrels eat what they want. They wouldn't take much anyway. The tree had more than enough apples for all of us.

after I wrote the above hubby just told me someone told him to hang aluminum foil all over the tree. Hang them in a way so the foil can move. Supposedly this scares the squirrels. We haven't tried this on our own tree though.

I was going to suggest the pie pans, too. I have also heard you can use used CD's and get the same effect. |

I saw an online posting about using cd's too. I was thinking about trying it around the strawberry patch. Last year we had a little bird get stuck in the netting and I would hate to see that happen again. Has anyone tried this yet? |

Well here are a few fruit trees with the CD's. Decided to just put CD's and see what happens. The thing with the CD's are, when the sun hits them they will burn your eyes out..LOL. So I just make sure I sit the other way and no more eye burn. When the wind blows it does put off the prizm effect, pretty neat for sure. The winds here have been pretty strong so I keep putting the CD's back on there from time to time. Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
