Greetings all! I'm new to this community and am about to plant my first roses. I have five beautiful tea roses and the only spot I can plant them in is around my pecan tree in my backyard. They would get full sun there but I'm wondering...will the pecan tree pose problems for them? Any ideas?

Thanks for the welcome! Since our weather here was absolutely beautiful today, I planted them...Added some organic compound around the roots and fed them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll do good in their location.

I'm not much of a rose grower, but I do know this: Pecan trees are large, hungry feeders, and roses love lots of fertilizer-so the two might not go too well together.

I was concerned... I understand some nut trees are toxic and some roses need full sun I was hoping some one would see your post ....keep an eye on them. And this post I am sure someone will comment Glad your weather is nice....it was way up in the 40s today.....

The pecan tree is pretty much a non-producer...what little it does produce goes straight to the squirrels. That was pretty much the only spot with full sun except where I'm putting in my veggie garden...all the rest of my yard is pretty well shaded...or taken up by my husband's garage!

I had to post an update on my roses that I planted this year. I'm happy to report that all five are doing very well and really growing nicely. One has produced six fat buds and two of them have bloomed. The unfortunate part is that they bloomed a bright pink and I didn't plant any pink roses! Here is a photo of my new babies...Chris

Pecan trees aren't a probem, black walnut is another story. Chris, do you remember the name of the roses you planted? Some roses are affected by environment. Hope this helps.
