I grew up with roast pork for New Year's. My mom said it was for good luck.

What do you all have for New Year's Day dinner?

Any traditions handed down in your family?

Pork chops, black eyed peas, and cabbage. Oh, and cornbread of course.

steak and lobster with black eyed peas (luck) and cabbage (money). Plus, we throw out dirty bath water before midnight (gets bad luck out of house, I think)

When I was growing up, we used to have prime rib and Yorkshire pudding (AKA "library paste" according to my husband, lol) in my family in northern Indiana. I've since lived all over the country, and every region seems to have its superstitious specialties, doesn't it? It's interesting. Here in the Carolinas it's the blackeyed peas-hoppin John-cornbread thing, but I've not heard that thing about not bathing or throwing out the dirty water until being on here! Funny!! My oldest and best friend from high school is coming down on Tues, so we'll do the suthun thang, I think! What about desserts?? My Pop's side is Italian, but I don't see tiramisu or panettone on the menu, hahah!! I can't bake worth a dang, but my friend has a real talent for it!

Probably pork roast, sauerkraut, taters, and carrots. The pork and cabbage are Pennsylvania Dutch tradition and my grandpa and most of the rest were of German heritage so that's what we have.

I don't know about dessert, but I've had some much homemade candy and cookies from my mom and my son's girlfriend that I think I've gained 15 pounds. We better hit the Slimfast for dessert! Hey! That's an idea. I wonder if that can be frozen like ice cream?

There must be pork (ham or pork roast) I usually do a pork roast, black-eyed peas, cabbage (either smothered with a little bacon, or cabbage rolls-depending on my mood), rolls or cornbread. I've had enough cooking-we may do the river boat again!

Baked ham, collard greens, black eyed peas w/rice,cornbread, and banana pudding.

Rawl's Farms plants something like 3,000 acres of collards in my county alone! With the early frost, they will be fantastic this year! I can hardly wait until Thursday.
