In the spring, I want to put some flowers in containers on the front porch steps. They are about 15 inches wide. Would like some clever suggestions on containers instead of just clay or ceramic pots. What do you think?

I am new to the gardening scene.

thanks for your help.

Hello, Sunny5501,

You can check the posts on this forum. Some of them have photos of different containers others are using.

Old shoes, boots, coffee pots, tea pots, bbq pit bottoms, buckets, child's wagon, whatever will hold dirt! Don't forget about drainage!

Old watering cans, an old cracked birdbath. Actually, I have a bird bath that I use that is not cracked. I line the bottom with aquarium gravel before planting.

May I suggest barrel half planters. I know your area is limited so full size barrels are out. But I have smaller white oak barrels that would work for that space. They are 5 gallon barrels that when cut into make great smaller planters.
If you would like more information or pictures email me at kybarrels@gmail.com

I also have full size barrel planters.

I love doing containers in anything I can drill a hole into for drainage. Here's some pic of ones I sold It my shop.

Thanks to all for your container suggestions. The pics were really neat.

I liked the tool box, too and the old coffee pots and pans. I just happen to have a few of them around!

Hello Sunny,
I just bought this yesterday. DH and I were at an antiques store and we were there to pick up an old light fixture the owner was repairing for us. I love antiquing and just finding a bargain in general. I noticed over in a corner a used and dented watering can sitting on the floor getting very dusty. I fell in love with it from the moment I saw it! I asked the owner what he would give it to me for...he said $8...I told him $5...he said deal! WooHoo!
As soon as we got home I washed it up and took a pic of it. DH said he'd drill some holes in it for me this Spring...
I was also thrilled to see in LouLou's post above that she mentioned old watering cans too...
Anyway, here's a pic of it...
