I would like to put in some vegetables in a small spot of the backyard. I only have about a 20 x 30 space to work with. I was thinking about some raised beds because of the limited space. Where do I start? |

Hello, Sunny5501. So you are new to gardening? So am I. I have done a little over the years, mostly just a few annual flower beds and maybe a couple shrubs here & there. Since we used to move alot, I didn't get much chance to really play in the dirt. I did find this nice website you my want to try. http://www.franksamericanstore.com/content/categor y/4/15/546195/ Hope it helps you out! |

Hi, When starting your garden the best thing you could do is start with really good soil. Feed the soil and the soil will feed your plants is the way the saying goes. Use good composted manure, worming casting, mushroom compost or any good natural material to till in with your soil. You might want a soil test done just to see what kind of soil you have. My veggie garden isn't very big either. I didn't do raised beds but I do grow alot of things in the small area on trellises. Here's a couple pics. Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

No, It's purple pole beans. My kids like them because they are easy to find when picking and they turn green when you cook them. |

Thank you very much, I'm trying to talk my husband into making it bigger this year. There are so many heirloom and funky veggies I want to try this year. I grew 12 different heirloom tomatoes last year and had a tomato taste testing at my work. People were afraid to try some of the purple/black varieties and the striped ones but once they did they couldn't believe how good they were. This winter is lasting way to long!!!! |
