I want a recipe to have for Christmas so the family and friends can eat before the main meal? It seems like everyone is hungry before meal is ready and want something to nipple on but they do not want sweets so can anyone give me some recipes that are good easy and will not fill them up so much they cannot eat the main meal? Thank you Rita |

What will you be serving for Christmas dinner? There are some great recipes for cheese balls on this recipe site. You could do a small buffet of cheese and crackers with fresh fruits. Maybe some crackers with fresh dips? How soon before dinner will the guests be arriving? |

I always have people come over one hour before dinner so that we can have appetizers and a drink before we eat. You don't want anything too heavy or labor-intensive. That's why the cheeseball idea is great. For Turkey Day, I served marinated shrimp, a cheeseball and crackers, and some mixed nuts. I placed them in several spots around the room so people would mingle, chatter and not eat too much before the big meal. All of these things can be done ahead so you won't have to fuss. A veggie and dip tray is good too. |

For Thanksgiving I put out veggies and dip, mixed nuts (I roasted the seeds from the pie pumpkin and added them), and for something different I got some chestnuts. You boil them in the shell for 10 minutes, cut a deep X in the round side, sprinkle with oil and salt and roast them until the shells open up and peel back. It's cool and different. Saturday was my pipe band's St. Andrew's Day party. For cocktail munchies I made oat crackers and a haggis, stomach and all. Heehee, that might make an impression! |

Only a true bagpiper would cook and eat haggis! |

Go to www.recipezaar.com and type "fruit dip" into the recipe search box. You will get 307 recipes. Then click on "sort by: rating" and the most popular (and easy!) ones will show up first. Looks like there's some good ones on there. |
