I recently purchased and received Navajo Blackberry plants from an online store.

I had purchased a blackberry plant online in the past, but did not know what type. It had very sharp thorns and grew in a very dense, shrub like manner. I read the Navajo is a thornless variety and is one of the sweetest available. So I removed the old and planted the new.

The site I purchased them at are:

The plants came bare root and I planted them about 3 days ago. I will update when they start to show signs of life. The last plant I purchased took a little more than two weeks.

I got 2 3 yr old plants...although the 2 yr may be the smarter buy. I also purchased an Ice Cream Banana tree, 25 sequoia strawberries, and some mycorhyzal fungi(I think that's how it's spelled). Blackberry plants are invasive, so plant them pretty far apart and the space should get filled up within a year. I'd suggest buying 5 or 6 and spacing them a few feet apart. If that doesn't produce the yield you want, you could always purchase more.

As for the fungi, I did some quick research and it seems interesting. It increases a plants ability to absorb nutrients. I'm going to try applying some to my Grapefruit and Orange trees.

Here are photos of the two blackberry plants I purchased. The space you see in the picture is about 8 feet long and 2 feet wide. The last two that I purchased were planted about 2 feet apart and they tried to take over the yard. That is why I planted these two about 3 feet apart and in a raised bed.

How fun that they have "begun"! I've noticed that my back field is being "greened" by new blackberries coming to life. I'm going to try and transplant some to a more manageable area in the front of the house. Keep us posted on your babies!
