I think it is dying. It is inside near a window, but not in direct light. It is browning on some leaves. It is also very rootbound (I am working on fixing but don't know how).... Attachments: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It is ok to be inside all year, will be slow growing though and possible new growth will be really long and gangly. Be sure it is not a window that is low e coated, which will prevent the needed healthy light to get to your palm, it will yellow and possibly die. It is good to summer it outside and bring in when temps start to drop. stage in a garage to prevent bugs being brought in. As for repotting, dont go too large, just 2-4 inch larger, sago's prefer to be a little root bound. obviously yours is reaching for more room though. Amend the soil with some fertilizer and blood meal. Dont use synthetic fertilizers, too much salt buildup which can sterilize the soil with frequent use. blood meal will keep foliage greener. Try not to fertilize during the winter months. Best to repot during the spring as well, then outdoor with natural rain watering. Protect the pot from direct sunlight during hot summer months, will dry soil too fast and possibly cook the roots. I like to place the pot in a larger container for protection as well as decoration. hope this helps your little guy. |

thanx for the pic ryan, ahh thats not bad at all to get out of (the roots) i mean. trust me this palm can take some tugging, just dont pull the frawns while taking it out of the pot, grab the body and yank her on out..its a country thing. I suggest you plant it in a pot double the size you have now. I have my plant placed directly on the north side of my house in the winter where the sun is more intense and warmer. I can suggest that it would like some misting. The browning at the ends of it, i cant tell you why or how that happens cause mine does it every year unfortunately. If you are able to place it outside in the summer, it does like heat, mine did and the more the better. Loves water too (in the summer) and make sure you get a pot that has drainage holes in it so you dont waterlog the roots. Everyones experiences are different and I am just suggesting what I have done and has worked. Ok with that said, yank her on out...ok

Hmmm. Cool. The person above you said not to go up too large a size though. I will go with what you said. Will just regular potting soil work? |

Miracle Gro *plus potting soil works pretty good. I only used the sand with it because it keeps it from drying out and holds water better. You can get a little bag of cactus sand, that is what I used. It is not expensive at all. I never thought to ask my mother-in-law in before about the frawns turning brown. She lives in FLorida, well she said the saga does it every year. When mine does it I will take a pic of it and put it up on here and show you what I mean. |
