The seeds planted here in the threads is causing problems. We figured to give a bit of leeway and let people get some of it out but we have to stop it, it has gotten out of hand. Too many of the comments are being flagged, accusations of not allowing the freedom of speech. Well, yes, we HAVE to monitor these things. This is Garden Guides and I swear I do not remember there being a constitution saying you get freedom of speech here. I do know it says this: You agree to refrain from swearing, profanity, foul language, discourteous behavior, racial, national or sexual slurs or other inappropriate or illegal behavior on this site. No warez links or crack how-tos or posts of a #@!$ographic or sexual nature please. No links to inappropriate content please. This is a family friendly site. You agree not to use this site to post any material which is illegal or that may generally be deemed to be vulgar, defamatory, inaccurate, harassing, hateful, threatening, invading of others privacy, sexually oriented or violates any laws. Our reference to swearing includes acronyms and variations and misspellings. We understand that sometimes posters will wish to vehemently disagree with someone else's post. This is fine but personal attacks or responses resorting to vulgar language are not permitted. Should a moderator or site administrator intercede in a thread due to it getting out of hand, he she may optionally close the thread (temporarily until people cool down or permanently) or request that members make no more than one more post on the subject (closing arguments.) You may not continue such "flame" topics by starting a new thread or post more than the one time as directed but you may edit your existing posts as desired should you have the ability to do so. Frankly, there are two BIG subjects that hit the 'problem' section on the nose: Religion and Politics. That is why we try to keep them simple if they pop up, and they ALWAYS turn bad. Those are two things that hardly anyone agrees on. So, people, let's plant a seed together. No more in the forums or blogs, let's keep them on forums designed for that, or in private messages! I know I have had my fair share of them, and keep then that way

Thank you for the friendly reminder RKayne. It never hurts any of us to occasionally refer back to the basic rules of our site so that we may have a friendly family atmosphere. |

wow....i wish i could have seen the offensive posts in that thread that made you pull it. it's too bad that people get so angry when they see a viewpoint different than theirs that they alert a thread and want it pulled. i'm not sure why people just don't stay out of politics or religion threads if they can't handle discussion or debate. over the garden fence, in real life, we don't have to limit our topics we discuss with our neighbors, thank goodness. one reason politics could be important in a gardening website is the fact that so many decisions are made by politicians regarding genetically modified foods, terminator seeds and all sorts of executive and legislative decisions meant to benefit corporate farms and agro-chemical companies. these decisions almost always favor big industry and hurt the consumer or home gardener or small farmer. it's this type of information that can help an otherwise uninformed voter become an informed voter, helping to make our democracy work better. but, oh well..... |

I understand the Garden Guides forum has strict rules about political posts, and that's fine with me. There are plenty of other outlets where those of us who are so inclined can talk politics. I talk politics a lot - at home, with my clients and associates, among friends, in my faith community, and in an online discussion group. Anyone wishing to join a FRIENDLY political discussion board, PM me and I'll send you a link. |
