To Boil a frog you start with cold water and gradually increase the heat, if you drop it in hot water it knows it's in trouble and jumps out. To outlaw gardening you start with registaring farms, ID tagging animals and then add ID tags for plants and the international "Guide to Good Farming Practices" so no one but multinational corporations can deal with the reams of regulations.

Some think farmers are whining about RFID tags for animals. But it is the proposed international regulations covering all food growing that is the real concern. The fight is really about who will control the world food supply--individuals or a handful of multinational corporations.

One goal within the WTO, dating from 2000, is to extend patent laws over all plants and animals (Article 27.3b)”[1]

The other goal is implementing complicated regulations with huge fines and jail sentences that force individuals to cease growing food.
[2,3,4]

Dan Amstutz, drafted the original text of the WTO Agreement on Agriculture. Dan Amstutz was appointed by Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman of “Food is Power, we do not apologize” fame. He worked for 25 years as a grain trader and VP at Cargill and had other strong ties with the grain trading cartel. Four privately own corporations control 90% of the worlds grain (Cargill, Continental - bought out by Cargill, Louis Dreyfus, Andre, and Bunge) [5] WTO, the IMF/World Bank “Structured Adjustment programs” [6,7,8] and the Global Diversity Treaty [9] allow Multinationals to “harvest”thousands of years of seed breeding for patenting. The European Union is leading the way with laws limiting the sale of seed to only those who can afford enormous fees [10,11] Animal patenting is also targeted [12] with an international patenting services already setup [13]

Please help fight for our right to food by supporting the legal battle at The Farmer-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund http://www.ftcldf.org/
and by gathering signatures for the R-CALF at R-CALF Petition .

To push the American public into supporting this bid for food control the USDA has drastically cut testing for disease and opened our borders to disease ridden plants and animals with no government oversight. [14,15,16] For example“Cattle crossing facilities on the U.S. side of the border are operated primarily by private firms. However, at Santa Teresa, NM, Chihuahuan (Mexican) cattle producers operate both sides of the cattle port-of-entry”[17] In California they cut testing for bovine tuberculosis from 10,576 in 1995 to 1,425 in 1999 then increases to 2500 after Mexican cattle brought in the disease and bragged of “enhanced surveillance”![18]

I feel it is important for all us to recognize these perils that do exist. Hopefully, this can be accomplished in a non-partisan way so that no feathers get ruffled in the process. As gardeners here, in all different phases, whether it be organic, veggie, flower, etc. can and will be impacted. I, personally, would like to know more about what is going and how this will affect future generations as well. Thank you for the post Gail.

Disappearing biodiversity is the really scary part. Commercial seed is the only seed that can be sold in Europe now. That means the heritage breeds are pretty much doomed. The Real Seed Co of the UK is trying to hang on but if they get hit like the co-ops here in the USA we may be doomed.

The poor guy had to be hospitalized. The police refused to call the ambulance when he collapsed, witnesses had to do it!!

In one raid pig owners were held at gunpoint in their home for WEEKS. Remember if they do this to livestock owners gardeners are not far behind. http://nonais.org/2006/09/29/henshaw-incident/

I've just joined this forum, and I can't believe what I'm reading about government interference in our own backyards. Is this all true? Is there a place on this forum where questions can be asked and answered? Not sure how to post a question so that it is clearly visible to all members....help if you can. Thank you in advance

Post it here in the "Over the GArden Fence" and most everyone will see the header and feedback if interested.

I think the original post dated 2008 hasn't led to much though pretty interesting. Lots of conspiracy theories out there and some truth to many. Lots of footnotes to reference. There is a lot of support for the "World Order" thing at least there are a few folks who support it (like Obama).
