Ok as you know by now I can get carried away, I just aqiured a Tiller , I have been planting in tub containers with pretty good luck but not without it's problems, a lot of shoveling/mixing in mixer and fighting every thing from too much water to to little, and every thing that comes along with containers without saying , now listen real close container planters " THINGS HAPPEN FAST IN CONTAINERS - THE GOOD -THE BAD- & AND UGLY" as some of you know, The problem I have is with a few containers you can water when they start to wilt a little, but with 150+ tubs that ant that easy floks even with a automatic watering system, some plants like a lot of water some don't, there is a learning curve when planting this many tubs of mixed veggies in tubs, So I am asking you my gardening helpers , should I park let's say about 50 tubs till that area and ground plant or should I suck it up remix/redrill more holes and plant both, freeze/can and give to our church food bank, Thanks Guilt Trip |

If it were me, I'd plant directly in the ground. There seems to be too much work with the containers, but then again, I'm lazy. |

Since I never have much success growing in containers, I would plant in the ground....If you miss all the work of mixing soil and such you can build a raised bed

Another vote for the ground. Your container system is really neat, I enjoyed reading about your methods and various travails, and I think it's a great system for someone who doesn't have much ground to plant in. But if you do, do! |

Ok, Youall better keep an Eye on this project, I am going to pull 60-80 tubs and reconfigure my garden for the spring planting, do Ya think I should spred the newly installed compost pile(8'wide 3'high and 20' long) over the area and till in or wait until spring giving it time to breakdown, The compost pile is layers of old hay/horse barn chips, and may I add a few fish heads from my last trip, just a thought here, get dan over with Bobcat and spred this stuff out over the new ground area, till in and plant winter rye grass for ground cover, and retiller before spring planting.
