This plant randomly came up, perhaps from a seed in some pine straw I put out. It's leaves fold up very compactly at dusk and open in the morning. Yellow flowers developed and now in October long seed pods have developed. It is really neat looking.

I am trying to determine what it is so I can determine if I should dig it up and transfer to the house during winter. I want to preserve it for next year and try propagating its seeds. It is a very interesting plant.

It's a plant in the Cassia genus. Senna is the common name.

My plant's leaf is more rounded rather than coming to a point as in pics of Senna I found. Are you sure???

This is a pic of mine starting to flower. All I know is mine is called a Cassia tree. In a couple of days, I will post a pic of the complete tree in bloom. It is starting it's bloom season now, which lasts a couple of weeks, if it doesn't rain!

Yes, it is Senna (Cassia) obtusifolia. Some consider it a weed.

Yes, Rashell reported it last night in 'Feedback' at the top of the forums.

Sensitive Plant is what we call it in SC. A weed in my book. Pull as quickly as possible or it will send its sensitive seeds all over the yard. Linda B

"Sensitive Plant" usually means Mimosa pudica not Senna obtusifolia(Cassia).

This does not re-seed, at least not here. Mine is tree-size. The last hurricane knocked it over again,(Rita knocked it around 3 years ago) but I won't try stabilizing it until after it blooms. I will post a picture in what's in bloom probably later this week, it is almost at it's peak.
