We were just given 3 live young Poplar trees by TucsonGreenFestival and need some information. I have read ALL kinds of bad things about these trees. But want to help out any way we can with keeping our planet green. We live in Tucson Az on a regular size lot in town, we have a back yard underground pool and block fences and side walks so we are limited to where we could even plant another tree. If its too risky we could plant them somewhere other than on our lot. Whats your advice.

I have grown them on a large lot and it was ok. They would send out a lot of little suckers. I would not grow them in a limited space because I understand the roots are invasive.

Most Populous species will grow any where from 40 feet to 110 feet tall and 20 feet to 65 feet wide depending on the variety you have. now think about this, a general rule of thumb states " most deciduous trees and shrubs will grow a root system roughly the same size as the crown or top of the tree." This is of course dependent on the water source and climate. If your lot does not have the room for a large root system, then you may want to rethink planting.
