I wrote this a while back and put it in my "look back folder" and it may be the time to look back and share with you,

Share Garden, by Grady "Guilt Trip"

One afternoon while shopping with Maggie & Jake, (our 5 year old twins) at our local Winn Dixie Store’s produce section , I gasped at the price of tomatoes: $2.99/ lb. I said WOW! It’s time to grow a garden. And just like the twin crows “Heckle and Jeckle”, at the very same time, Maggie and Jake said a big YES.

Immediately, Jake started planning, telling us in his oh-so-earnest manner how we would need flower seeds, roses, sunflowers and some potting soil. I laughed and said that’s not vegetables - with Maggie laughing too.

You see, Jake doesn’t do vegetables well, (if it’s not chocolate or ala mode it’s not for him.) But he loves flowers, having prayed many, many prayers of thanksgiving for the bees, trees, butterflies and the flowers. Pen and pad in hand,
he also loves planning, frequently helping us with lists when we go out to do errands. So it was to be. Vegetables AND flowers.

We dragged our old wood swing from the front yard around back and set it up with a great garden view. You gotta watch things grow, after all. The garden grew very well with the twin’s help, of course. One evening Maggie and I were sitting out on that old back-yard garden swing and she said that Ms. Pass our neighbor was a nice lady. You see, Maggie and Ms. Pass stand at the fence and talk a lot, like sisters and neighbors use to do. That’s a garden’s gift, to see that in itself. Well, one day, while sitting on the swing Maggie said, “Da Da we need to share our Garden with Ms Pass.” She paused and then added, “We can call our garden the “Share Garden” . With Jake’s approval, we all agreed.

Sometimes things start out so simple and bring such joy, love , laughter. It’s a gift that my daughter was thinking of others and of sharing with them. It’s a gift that I have I that memory of the day we named our garden and those that followed as they planted the seeds, looked for bugs, swung on the nearby tree swing and watched the miracle of these seeds turning into luscious green plants and then fresh, delicious fruit. I have the memory of the twins running into the house for bags when friends stop by so we can pass along a little bit of God’s garden bounty. That’s God’s gift. I’m so fortunate to see His hand in my life and in my childrens’ lives. Thank you Jesus!

....From our Share Garden. Just watching things grow, Grady

Those are some sweet little gardeners. I like the Share Garden idea, too.

Take that last picture in a few years and one or the other will probably have a choke hold on their sibling if you can even get them near each other! lol

Love the story and the pictures. You never know what is going to come out of the mouth's of babes. If the world would just take on the same attitude, there would be peace.

I wiah that as my children grew up I had written all those little things down that they have done or said so I could remember them all. What a nice job Guilttrip. What a great family

Beautiful story & children, thanks for sharing. My mother always told me to write things down when my girls were little, but I KNEW the details were too precious to forget.....foolish foolish foolish!!! I remember many stories, but not ALL that I had thought. You are very wise and when older, your children, grandchildren, etc. will be thrilled to have them.~Andrea
