September 28th, 2009: Hi Aimee,
I know this thread was started a year ago, but I just spent the last 2 days stripping my vegie plots to harvest as much as possible cuz ground frost is coming, and I have over 50 greenies and a smaller crate of some just starting to pink up. Also been eating ripe ones in every possible way for over a week.. can't seem to keep ahead of it..I need all the help I can get!

I will definitely try fried green tomatoes using a tip from each of you.
BUTTERMILK: cuz I know from making biscuits that the interaction between yeast & buttermilk makes magic,
SELF RAISING FLOUR: just sounds like a good idea.
DOUBLE DIPPING:Sounds right too.
USING A DEEP FRYER TO CUT DOWN ON THE MESS..Also sounds smart
SAVING AND STORING:
Since I couldn't eat all my greenies without ending up in the hospittle, I have also lined a big crate with newspaper, and wrapped my greenest greenies individually in newspaper, separating the layers with big grocerystore bags.

Huge thanks to all of you, Aimme, KeeWee, Cougar, maggieevans and chrispaul.

Will let you know how it all turns out.
Hugs,
damselfly (aka gimpy2)

P.S. I have a new soup recipe to try.. Michael Bonacini (Cook Like a Chef), was on CITY LINE today. His Pumpkin Soup involves chopped onions, garlic and celery (holy trinity), Thai red curry paste, Kaffir lime leaves, chicken or vegie broth, whizzed after cooking, finished with coconut milk and garnished with toasted salted pumpkin seeds and a thread of pumpkin seed oil and crumbled toasted papadums (guess I can substitute a toasted tortilla for that. .. Will post it in the soup thread. Won't wait till I've tried it.. trust this chef, he's a winner.

I am absolutely drooling thinking of fried green tomatoes.I always slice them thin, dip in egg,and then in flour or cornmeal. The buttermilk sounds really yummy,if it wasn't so late,I'd fry some right now.I don't want to have to clean up the mess tonight tho.I'm too tired,It's almost 9:30 PM.....
