Im new to gardening (ive never done any at all before) so i was wanting to start with some sort of fruit or vegetable. I live in portland and its about 50 degrees at nighttime in the fall. so i was wondering if i can plant some fruits or veggies maybe like a tomato now or if i have to wait untill a certain season? if so could i please get a couple names of some plants that i can plant in the fall?

Tomatoes take pretty hot weather to produce. It's a little late for them outdoors for sure, but you could try the cool weather crops like cabbage, kale, and collards. Cilantro would probably do well, too, as far as herbs go.
