I set out my self started yellow and zucinni squash plants yesterday in my large round raised beds (over 5' across). Now ! it's time to mulch those babies I went over to my roll of last years hay and started to cut the strings and pull the hay into the wheelbarrow, looking at the hay there was mold on all of it , now I've been there to loose a row of squash to powdery mildue/mold before, I took that hay to my future compost pile area and dumped it. that hay looked like it would make me sick and surley would make those little squash plants sick. so the next best thing on hand was my pile of 1/2 decomposed chips, please tell me I did the right thing, I begga ya, They look good with that chip mulch around them, Later Guilt Trip, Photo comming |

That was a good idea to get rid of the old hay! Don't see a problem with the decomposing wood chips |

That's what we do with old hay. Throw it in the compost pile. |
