My wife just cooked lunch and we had ham, potato salad, homemade rolls and FRIED GREEN BEANS. Delicious. She thawed the beans, dried them and dipped them in eggs and milk, then rolled them in salted and peppered flour, deep fried them and the rest is history. They are to die for. Ok ~ now you've gone and done it! It took serious self-control to keep from licking my screen! Those look delicious. Around here, they will deep fry anything, but I believe your wife has hit upon a winner ~ lucky you!! P.S. Pizza dough recipe is in the mail

Looks lucious Bugnut..Super side for ham. Now you can go for the rest of the vegies.. The Japanese have been doing something like that for centuries, they call it TEMPURA but they make up a batter out of the same ingredients. Only difference is they use something fizzy as as part of of the liquid contents..makes the batter lighter. Beer, soda water whaterver you fancy. Also good with: ultra thin shavings of sweet potato, carrot. (use a potato peeler) cauliflower is good but tends to crumble into the oil, so if you do it, fry it last. Go to the oriental section of your store.. you will see bottles marked TEMPURA next to the soya sauce. That is dipper for the fried vegies. A tube of WASABI not a bad idea either.. It is a Japanese super hot sauce made up of mustard and horse radish. It's green. Stir a tiny bit of than into the Tempura sauce. WOW!WASABI!!! You don't have to stop with vegies.. Shrimp Tempura is yummy too. Also good as an easy entertainment for busy people.Do the vegetable prepping. Put all the raw stuff on the table with a fondu frier and a bunch of long forks and let everyone do their own. Super easy and fun. Like Fondu with a difference. Haven't done it since last winter. Now I feel like doing tempura tonight. Gimpy2 |

There was a Japanese market about 15 miles away that had everything I could ever need. Super frozen fresh fish, eel, rices, pastas, sake, etc. I purchased my tempura batter there and use it from time to time. I've heard they use soda water, but I use regular cold water and it comes out great. As stated earlier, you can fry up any veggies you like. Shrimp, scallops, and fish are great as well. You just batter, fry, and then place on paper towels to drain. Once cooled, dip into some tempura dipping sauce and enjoy. We used to make it pretty often, but the market recently stopped selling the fish we liked, so our sushi parties at home have become less frequent. As for the green beans..didn't they sell that as an appetizer at Friday's? I've never had it myself, but I'm sure I'd like it. |
