Our little Keiffer pear tree produced a huge, for it's size- about a 2" diameter trunk and 10 ft tall, crop of pears this year Proabably about 40. Poor thing, it's little branches were almost breaking under the weight of all the pears, I had to bungee them together
Anyway, much to the tree's and Logan's delight they are ripe. logan tells me they are very good
Wonder what sort of harvest we'll get next year?

Oh, that is super! I do love pear preserves! I don't make them all that well, but a lady brought me a jar of hers. Yummm!

Double-checking how far ahead pears need to be picked. I've never known what kind of tree we have, but the pears have tough skin, and sometimes get grainy around the core. Delicious canned, though. The Almanac suggests a week ahead, rather than ripening on the tree, storing at 38 to 40 deg.
Anyone like to add to this?

I pick when they come off with just a little twist and tug.
