Hey, I'm new to this site. Actually I'm new to gardening. Just tried some this year. I thought my melon leaves were just burning up because of the drought. I looked up some information on this site and found the milk remedy. I tried it yesterday... got my fingers crossed. Unfortunately, I may have waited too long. I read somewhere that if its "chronic" you may have to cut it away. That would be all my vines! I'm looking forward to some help from you guys that have been there before. |

I wish that I could help you with this one, but welcome to Garden Guides. I'm sure there's someone here that knows the answer! |

Well, my yellow squash that was afflicted with powdery mildew finally succumbed totally. It was about time for it to go anyway, they never last past August here. So I pulled it up and am going to plant some radishes in its spot. Is there anything I should do to the area because of the mildew? Will it live on in the ground there or whatever? Does it infect anything beyond cucurbits? What about next summer? |

I don't know- I'd keep an eye on the new plants and treat them at first hint of a problem |

I get the dreaded PM on my squash and cucs too...But so far, so good this year! My Monardas and perennial sunflowers are also afflicted. I did two things different to my cucs this year...so far no PM. 1. Never water when the sun is on the plants. 2. Used a bit of Neem oil spray at the beginning of the year. Maybe that helped...but not sure! |

Another good way of preventing powdery mildew is to avoid getting the leaves wet in the evening- that just invites fungus and mildew problems. |

Early morning LOL! You can water anytime, just avoid getting the leaves wet! I use a drip system, it just waters the root zone without getting the leaves wet. |
