The last of my green beans are over so i chopped the stocks of and will be adding a 6 inch layer of compost over them. Starting to feel like fall here temps are in the 50ies at night and a friend said Bradford ,Pa. had frost. |

lol , I still have lots of big green tomato's so I'm doing the no frost dance but my old legs may not hold out until oct . |

At least you can ripen those big green tomatoes indoors - though they won't be as good as ripened on the vine, they'll still be better than anything you can get in the grocery store. But hey, frost in August??!! Say it ain't so! My second crop of beans is coming in nicely now. This is the first year I've done well with a second crop of beans. I'm convinced it's all about water. In years past, I've been too stingy! |

It's been a strangely cool august here in the ohio valley. Feels like late september, and yesterday we had a HUGE orange hunter's moon. Odd, this is usually the hottest, dryest month. I'm not complaining though, we had the a/c off for over a week, and this week its raining for three days straight. Maybe that burst of garden growth that usually happens in September will come a bit early. Maybe my freakin' yard long beans will BLOOM. |
