I am going out on a limb here as I don't know a lot about snakes, but I would say they are going to be where they can find food. For a snake that would be mice, rats and other little critters. Do you have a problem with mice?

Shame you can't just run them back into the National Forest isn't it?

Good luck and check your sheets every night before jumping into bed

WE ACTUALLY HAVE LOTS OF LIZARDS AROUND FOR SOME REASON. MAYBE THEY ARE EATING THEM. AS FOR CHECKING THE SHEETS, THAT WOULD BE TO MAKE SURE THERE AREN'T ANYMORE BATS IN THE BEDROOM.

There's some information on how to get rid of snakes on this site...

http://www.gardenguides.com/pests/pestinfo/snakes. asp

We have some friends that moved way out into the country and had problems with snakes simply because my friends had moved into the snakes' habitat. They ended up calling an exterminator and it took about two years to solve the problem.

My guess is they are eating the lizards or bats. Get rid of what the lizards are eating and you'll get rid of the lizards; get rid of the lizards and you'll be rid of the snakes.
Mothballs don't do anything, and can also harm your pets.
If you can get an exterminator out to check your property he may be able to find what the food source for the snakes/lizards is, and remove it.
I really hate to kill animals because people move into their habitat. It's their home too! Usually if you can remove the food/shelter, they'll leave on their own, without anything being killed, except bugs which are fair game LOL!
As for the bats- make sure all openings into the home are blocked off so they can't get access. DON'T kill bats! They are very helpful critters that eat lots of different insects- main being mosquitos. Plus some species are endangered.
Put bat boxes around other parts of your property for them to live in.
