Hello, I just set up my new little black compost box in the back to cut down on leaves going to the curb. Anyhow, how do I go about this? I read the booklet about what goes in and what doesn't but how do I get started? What goes in first please. |

Heart, if you can get a hold of grass clippings, they are the perfect complement to leaves. Use equal weights NOT equal volumes. You can layer them or mix them together. They heat up great together even in the confines of a small composter. |

Here's a tip on composting: COMPOST HAPPENS There's really no right or wrong way. Different methods will produce compost faster or slower than other methods. Basic rule of thumb is to put in equal parts, as Stereo said by weight, of brown and green. Turn often, and keep moist (not wet) Put in anything other than meat and dairy (attracts rodents), and bury kitchen scraps in the center (again to deter rodents). |

Heart, I looked long and hard at those type of composters. could you tell me what made you decide on that kind? I still have not made up my mind yet.... |

It was very simple, it's was just there. I believe they were handed out or something somewhere and my mother picked it up. |
