When to plant spring flowering bulbs

I'm wondering if I can plant spring flowering bulbs now (as opposed to waiting until fall). I'm in Zone 4 or 5, depending on what chart one looks at. I know they may sprout, but would this prevent them from coming up in spring of '09? |

I would wait until fall... Summer flowering bulbs you can plant now... |

HEY Ruthieann! I'm near Traverse City too! Actually halfway between TC and Empire. Where are you? October 1 is my usual planting date for spring flowering bulbs. I do have some friends that start planting them about now. Who knows....by October 1, we could have SNOW! But let's hope NOT! |

That's neat that you're close. I'm actually just outside of Kingsley. I work in T.C., though. Thanks for the October 1 suggestion. I think I'll just put that right on my calendar. Seems I always forget until it's too late. |

I lived East of Kingsley on Marsh Rd. for a couple of years prior to moving here! We should be safe doing bulbs thru the month of October...which reminds me...I better go buy some pretty soon! |

the local gardner said its to early in zone 5 wait until the end of oct or 1 st of nov hmmm .......
